Benjy (through interbreeding and evolution over a thousand years) can understand much of the English language. One day, whilst in his garden, he overhears two would-be drug dealers planning to take over his mistress's house to use as the ideal drug den.
Desperate to warn his mistress, after a lot of hard work he finds a way for her to understand him by reading his mind. And after that more training to talk to him using her mind.
Then follows an exciting tale of the two men taking over her house (unknown to them under the watchful eye of the police) and beginning to use it as a drug den. Getting greedy, they decided to cut out their London suppliers and go for a better deal to buy their drugs cheaper from someone else.
This upsets the London gangsters, and there follows a time When Joan and Benjy are kidnapped off the street by the gangsters in an effort to find out where she lives and where the two men who they assume are her partners are getting their drugs from.
It all culminated in a police raid that trapped the two drug dealers, the gangsters, plus the men they were buying their drugs from.
