only man she ever loved to do so. After graduating, she felt it was too late to go home to her tribe. So she found a place in Indian territory where she was determined to become one of the first lady doctors. She became engaged to Charles King a
well-known rancher in Fallis. But when smallpox broke out in one of the neighboring tribes, she felt she had to go and help them. After all, she had no white patients in Fallis. Not because she was a breed, but because she was a woman. So, she packed up and went to help the Arapahos who'd been given blankets by the government with smallpox in them. Her fiance didn't want her to go, but knowing she didn't love Charles, she broke the engagement and went!
