Beneath the Lily Pads is a reflective, memory-inspired story about a young boy and his father spending several weeks at their lakeside cabin. For me, many of them were born in the quiet simplicity of our family camping trips. We didn't have much when I was young, but we had the outdoors, a canvas tent, and the steady glow of a campfire. Those nights beneath the stars shaped me in ways I didn't understand until much later.

Years passed, and when I had a family of my own, we found ourselves camping too-partly because it was all we could afford, and partly because it felt right. Those were the years when I first began to write. I would sit by the fire with a notebook on my lap, letting old memories rise like sparks from the flames. Sometimes I sketched. Mostly, I wrote. The stories came one after another, as if they had been waiting patiently for me to finally listen.

For a long time, everything I wrote was tucked away-saved for later, as people often say. But years passed, and later finally arrived. In my older age, with time at last on my side, I gathered those pieces and gave them the care they deserved. I'm grateful I kept every note, every scrap, every half-formed idea.
This book is one of those pieces brought back to life.
