Bel Ami is a novel by French author Henri Rene Guy De Maupassant, first published in 1885. The story follows the rise of Georges Duroy, a former soldier who becomes a successful journalist in Paris. Duroy, who is nicknamed Bel Ami for his good looks and charm, uses his social skills to climb the ranks of Parisian society, seducing wealthy and influential women along the way. He begins by manipulating his way into a job at a newspaper, where he quickly rises through the ranks, thanks to his cunning and ambition. He then sets his sights on the wives and mistresses of the powerful men he meets, using his charm and sexual prowess to manipulate them into helping him achieve his goals. However, Duroy's success comes at a cost, as he becomes increasingly ruthless and morally bankrupt, betraying those who helped him along the way.
