The world has always feared its ending. What is new is that humanity now possesses the power to imitate it.
From the atomic flash over Hiroshima to artificial intelligence, deepfakes, climate disruption, pandemics, surveillance, weaponized religion, and algorithmic manipulation, modern civilization has created forces whose power can exceed our moral wisdom to govern them. In an age saturated with catastrophe, many people turn to prophecy searching for dates, signs, and secret timelines. Before the Trumpet Sounds offers a more demanding response: the Qur'an speaks of the Last Day not so humanity can calculate when the world will end, but so we will learn how to live faithfully before it does.
Grounded in an Islamic theological framework and written for Muslims, scholars, spiritual seekers, and readers of every background, this book transforms apocalyptic anxiety into a theology of responsibility. The Hour belongs to Allah alone. What belongs to us is the interval before it: the truth we must establish, the harm we can repair, the neighbor we can serve, the vulnerable we can protect, the institutions we can hold accountable, and the trust we must pass to those who come after us.
The book unfolds through five movements. The first confronts the alarm itself: nuclear power, the Last Day, Qur'anic warning, and the danger of mistaking human catastrophe for a timetable of divine judgment. The second turns to the prophetic pattern through Ilyas, known in other traditions as Elijah, and Musa, asking what courage looks like when it refuses spectacle, cruelty, and personal ambition. The third moves inward to the formation of a trustworthy self: verification before belief, purification of the nafs, a sustainable rule of life, shura, amanah, and accountable leadership. The fourth movement enters the trials of the technological age.
The final movement turns from diagnosis to repair: peaceful public witness, care for creation, reconciliation rooted in truth, and communities prepared to protect the vulnerable before crisis arrives. The reader is not asked to solve every global problem. The reader is asked to choose the work nearest at hand and begin.
Urgent without sensationalism, prophetic without presumption, Before the Trumpet Sounds is a theology of apocalypse, technology, and the courage to rebuild. It is both a distinctly Islamic work and part of Eliyahu's wider engagement with the Abrahamic prophetic traditions. Across traditions, his recurring question is how inherited faith can form people capable of truthfulness, courage, mercy, responsibility, and repair in an age shaped by technological power, ecological strain, and social fragmentation.
The trumpet has not sounded. There is still time to repent, repair, build, forgive, protect, and serve.
The question is not when the world will end.
The question is: What will you do with the time that remains?
