So much of prayer can become a list of what we need.
Help me.
Guide me.
Heal this.
Change that.
Give me an answer.
But what might happen if we paused before the asking and remembered what has already been given?
Before I Ask: Words of Gratitude is not simply a book about gratitude.
It is gratitude.
Written as a collection of heartfelt prayers directly to God, these pages give you words to borrow when you want to say thank You-for the ordinary gifts you almost missed, the people who have shaped your life, the prayers God has heard, the grace that has carried you, the second chances you have received, and the love that was there before you ever knew how to ask for it.
These are not prayers that pretend life is perfect.
There is room here for disappointment.
For grief.
For unanswered questions.
For things that should never have happened.
Gratitude does not require us to call every painful thing good. It invites us to recognize that even in an imperfect and unfinished life, goodness remains.
Grace remains.
Love remains.
God remains.
Through fifteen intimate prayers, Before I Ask moves from gratitude for the life around us to something deeper-gratitude for what God has done within us, for Jesus, and ultimately for the God who loved us first.
Read a chapter in the morning.
Keep it beside your Bible.
Take a few pages with you into a quiet chapel.
Or open it whenever you need help finding the words to pray.
You don't have to read these pages as someone else's words.
Make them yours.
And perhaps, little by little, gratitude will become more than something you practice.
Perhaps it will become the way you see your life.
Before the plans.
Before the worries.
Before the requests.
Before I ask,
