Every child knows that feeling.
That hot, fizzing, take-over-your-whole-brain feeling when something does not go your way. When you want something so badly that waiting feels impossible, thinking feels unnecessary, and the only thing that makes any sense is doing something about it right now.
Mr. Bear knows that feeling very well.
When he wakes up one morning and finds his honey gone, he does not stop to look twice. He does not pause to think. He marches straight into the forest, finds a beehive high up in a tree, and decides - with complete confidence - that the honey inside belongs to him.
One small bee disagrees.
What follows is one of the funniest, most relatable little disasters you will ever read out loud to a child. There is a warning that gets ignored. A sting on the nose. A big stick. A smashed beehive. And then - oh, then - thousands of very unhappy bees who have quite a lot to say about the whole situation.
By the time Mr. Bear comes crashing through his own front door and slams it shut behind him, he has collected enough bee stings to last a lifetime and enough lessons to last even longer.
The biggest one?
The honey was in the cupboard the whole time.
The Bear and the Bee is a warm, funny, and gently powerful read-aloud for children ages 3 to 8. Written with playful energy and a storytelling voice that keeps young readers turning every page, this book tackles one of the most universal childhood challenges - managing a hot temper - without ever feeling like a lecture.
It is the kind of story that makes children giggle and then go quiet for just a moment, because somewhere in the back of their little minds, they recognize Mr. Bear. They have been Mr. Bear. And that moment of recognition is where the real lesson lands - softly, naturally, and in a way that sticks.
Perfect for:
- Bedtime reading and family read-aloud nights
- Preschool and kindergarten classroom storytelling
- Parents navigating big emotions and impulse control with young children
- Early readers building emotional intelligence and self-awareness
- Anyone who has ever lost their temper and lived to laugh about it
A hot temper always gets you into trouble. - The Bear and the Bee
