Ric Fletcher's orders to MacDill AFB felt like a rescue-sun, sand, and a final year of breathing room. But a year later, a new set of orders would send him somewhere he never expected to finish his tour: Phu Cat, Vietnam.
After eighteen demanding months on Okinawa-stacking thousands of incoming munitions in the Bishigawa bomb dump and loading B-52s diverted to Kadena during super typhoons-Ric finally received the news he'd been hoping for. He and three of his closest buddies were heading to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. For the BB Stackers, it felt like a well-earned break. Leave could be spent dreaming of Florida beaches, sunshine, and golden-skinned beauties in two-piece bikinis instead of the relentless grind of bomb-dump duty.
Stateside life delivered exactly what they hoped for: easier days, familiar comforts, and the sense that Ric's final year in the Air Force might pass quietly. He believed MacDill would be his last assignment-the place he'd complete his four-year tour and be discharged.
But the Air Force had other plans.
A year later, Ric and his buddy Bob Joiner were stunned to receive new orders: Phu Cat Air Base, Vietnam. With only one year left in his enlistment, Ric suddenly faced the reality that he would finish his service in a war zone. The easy life he imagined vanished overnight, replaced by uncertainty, danger, and the weight of a mission far different from anything he had expected.
BB Stackers II: The Sequel follows Ric's unexpected journey from the beaches he dreamed about to the bomb dump he never saw coming-capturing the friendships, fears, humor, and grit of a young airman whose path took a sharp turn into history.
Ric Fletcher receives orders for MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. These orders came as a relief to Ric as he thought that it might be his last base assignment. a base where he would be discharged from the USAF, having completed his four-year tour of duty. However, with just one year left, he was shocked to receive orders for Vietnam. There he would be stationed at Phu Cat Air Force Base until his discharge.
