Bad Poetry is a collection of thirteen poems written over the course of many years-some in the aftermath of relationships, some while trying to untangle family issues, some during quiet moments of self-reflection.
And one inspired by my cat, who is awesome.There are some in this collection that I'm fond of. And there are some that, objectively speaking, not very good.
And yet...
I couldn't bring myself to leave them behind.
Because sometimes poetry is a snapshot of a moment you'll never get back. Sometimes it's proof that you survived something you once thought would destroy you. Sometimes it's embarrassing. Sometimes it's beautiful. Often, it's both.
The better poems in this collection don't invalidate the weaker ones, just as the person I am today doesn't erase the versions I was.
The title Bad Poetry pays homage to every notebook hidden in the back of a dresser, every late-night burst of inspiration, every page that was never meant for anyone else's eyes.
I mean, we've all written something we'd rather not read aloud years later. But those imperfect words are often the ones that carried us through this weird, wonderful life. Right?Also from
