The Babylonian Talmud: Tract Sanhedrin is a book by Michael L. Rodkinson that provides a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the Sanhedrin, one of the most important and influential tracts in the Babylonian Talmud. The book delves into the history and background of the Sanhedrin, providing readers with a deep understanding of its significance and relevance to Jewish law and tradition. It also includes an in-depth examination of the various legal and ethical issues addressed in the tract, as well as detailed commentary and analysis of the Talmudic texts. This book is an essential resource for scholars, students, and anyone interested in exploring the rich and complex world of Jewish law and tradition.GEMARA: How is to be understood the expression of the Mishna: One party selects one, etc.? Does it mean one party may select one court of three judges, and likewise the other; and then both the third court, which would be altogether nine judges? Are, then, three not sufficient? It means, if one party selects one judge its opponent may also do so, and then both may select the third one. And what is the reason of such a selection? It was said in Palestine in the name of R. Zera: Because each party selects its own judge, and both agree in the selection of the third one, the decision will be a just one. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
