Audrey and Sharon is inspired by a real crime in 1957 in Upstate New York. A lovely, innocent high school girl named Audrey, raised in an extremely religious, Evangelical family, desires only to be accepted and to fit in. Sharon is the secularly raised girl who tries to befriend and help her do so. Audrey is lured into posing nude for photographs by a teenage boy who gets her drunk. The boy, a dropout and not one of nature's geniuses, sells copies of the photo to other students. The incident quickly becomes public knowledge and a scandal erupts. Audrey is expelled. Her family is devastated. Disaster ensues.
