A story about a farm girl who flirts with eco-terrorism after dreaming she's a goat, and a philosophy teacher who faces the abyss in a fight for the farm girl's soul, Animals Are People is both a page-turning novel and a passionate argument for the moral status of all sentient beings.

Jo knows what it's like to be a bat. She has visions. She inhabits the consciousness of a bat, an elephant, and a chicken. These animal dreams are strange and beautiful and build deep empathy. But her visions force Jo to act - to free the animals - and they push her to the edge of insanity.

Inari, a free-spirited teacher of philosophy, is Jo's only hope. Together they wrangle the intellectual foundations of a civilization which tells us that animals are objects, man holds dominion, and nature exists for us to exploit.

This is not your typical love story. It's a mind-bending exploration of sentience, personhood, classification, and indigenous wisdom; and a guide to living in a world that's dying. But, make no mistake, Animals Are People is a love story - of animals, people, and the wonders of being alive.
