ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
An intimate novel that addresses fundamental subjects of our time, such as migration and culture shock.
A student arrives at the University of Colorado, United States, in search of the academic version of the American dream. The promise of this campus as a sanctuary where Western issues--such as background, race, and class--are resolved, succumbs to nighttime reality. Students dwell past the walls of the city, hunting everything the day denies them: light, company, tenderness, certainty. The protagonist's gaze explores those stories threaded during an endless night: the obsession with South America as a romantic, sexual, and political destination; parallel and toxic affairs; the need to erase any signs of identity in order to create a new one; literature as a safekeep; the future becomes a form of darkness barely illuminated by some far away alien stars. Luminous Animals is an intimate novel that addresses fundamental subjects of our time, such as migration and culture shock. But it is also about the small great dramas of a group of friends living their doubts with profound vitality, a story in which love becomes shelter and maybe even an answer.
