The great poets that I read bring me to a place where I surely must be sharing their feelings. I would like to think that what I have written may have a similar, although much diminished effect. For the spiritual topics there is gratitude and worship. That which speaks of the military results from memory and respect for those serving now and in the past, and there is a feeling of empathy for those suffering loss. Some things are amusing and of course some situations simply refuse to fit into any box. I must confess to not having a conscious sense of purpose or structure until after some of these poems were completed. Then I recognized a meaning which was beyond my ability for expression. I deny this is false modesty, for I firmly believe that there has sometimes been spiritual guidance which has come from God.
