Fourteen-year-old Esperanza Suarez is a lively budding computer scientist, whose deep penchant for coding is drowning her in a sea of rivals and bullies as she tries to navigate her freshman year at a new high school. When Esperanza's abuelita introduces her to the exciting field of artificial intelligence in an attempt to lift her beloved granddaughter's spirits, Esperanza is quickly galvanized into crafting a brilliant work of engineering. She builds a robot cat named Alan Purring. But when Alan Purring spirals out of control, will she be able to train him? Or will Alan embark on a mission of utter destruction, razing everything in his path to the ground? Esperanza is desperate to find how to fix the rogue cat's mysterious behavior, and prove her engineering skills to her classmates and the world.
