Since its beginnings on the chalk streams of England, fly fishing has enjoyed increasing popularity. This was accelerated by the publication of Norman Maclean's memoir, A River Runs Through It, and the film based on the book. In Above the Rise, H. G. Moser draws on a lifetime of fly fishing. The poems and prose pieces in the book cover a wide variety of subjects related to life in the waters of Montana and elsewhere in the world. Included in the book is a remembrance of days spent fishing the Big Hole River in Montana. Also included are two fictional pieces: an excerpt from a novella based on the life of a river guide and a children's story about a frog who loses his home when his pond dries up and his search for a new one with the help of a mysterious friend.
