It is a sequel to his earlier work She and continues the story of Ayesha, the immortal queen of the lost city of Kr. The book follows the journey of Leo Vincey, the protagonist of She, and his companion Holly, as they travel to the African interior in search of Ayesha. Along the way, they encounter various obstacles and dangers, including hostile tribes, treacherous terrain, and Ayesha's own supernatural powers. Eventually, they reach Kr and discover that Ayesha has been awaiting Leo's return for centuries.
