Atlantic Salmon, Lifecycle Haiku Poems, Elliot Harris
From cold waters to crushing pressures, this book follows the course of a life lived through the timeless form of haiku. In these poems author Elliot Harris reflects upon memory, change, discovery, struggle, and renewal. Like the salmon whose journey provides the collection's guiding imagery, these poems move between departure and return, wilderness and urban sprawl, the fleeting moments and the slow crawl of life.
Each poem appears in both English and Japanese. Translated individually as faithfully as possible, this was a deliberate choice to express the author's deep respect for Japan and its poetic tradition.
Unusual in name, the title itself is a haiku. Within it lies the central idea of the collection: that something as vast and mysterious as a human life may be captured in only a few carefully chosen words. And to see the beauty in only those blinks is truly divine.
