The Astronomical Ephemeris for 1853, a vital resource for astronomers, navigators, and scholars, presents precise astronomical data calculated under the authority of Nevil Maskelyne, the Commissioners of Longitude, and the Admiralty. This volume offers detailed tables of the positions of celestial bodies, essential for accurate timekeeping, navigation, and scientific research.
Compiled by the Nautical Almanac Office, this ephemeris provides indispensable information for determining longitude at sea, supporting the burgeoning maritime activities and global exploration of the era. Its meticulous calculations reflect the advanced state of astronomical knowledge in the mid-19th century, making it a valuable reference for understanding the history of astronomy and navigation. The data contained within facilitates the replication of historical observations and aids in the study of long-term astronomical phenomena.
