I remember the day I met Kathleen, the way our journey began not in romance but in shared faith. It was a simple encounter, yet it carried the weight of divine purpose. The Holy Spirit spoke, whispering a truth that would shape my life forever: She is your wife. At the time, I laughed-not out of disbelief, but out of sheer wonder. How easily God can take the ordinary-two strangers meeting in church-and transform it into something extraordinary. That was the beginning of our journey, a foundation laid in praise, built upon trust in His guidance.
But there would come times when praise would not come as easily. When grief knocked at my door, stealing the presence of a dear friend, I wrestled with God in silent sorrow. The pain felt unbearable, and for a moment, my worship wavered. How do you praise when your heart is aching? How do you lift your hands when they tremble under the weight of loss? And yet, it was in those moments that I learned the deepest truth about praise-it is not dependent on circumstance, but on the unwavering goodness of God.
Faith was tested in other ways, too. Living as Protestants in Croatia brought challenges that threatened our peace. There were days of unease, moments where fear knocked at the edges of our hearts. But even then, praise remained our refuge, a shield against the voices that sought to intimidate us. Worship was not just an act; it was a weapon, an anchor in a storm that tried to shake us.
I think back to the day we returned from India, weary but hopeful, only to find our van stolen-along with boxes of carved elephants we had brought back as gifts. The frustration, the loss, the questions-all of it threatened to steal my gratitude. Why would God allow this? Wasn't our mission good, our hearts surrendered? But through the haze of disappointment, praise still broke through. Worship is never about what we have or what we lose, but about the One who remains constant through it all.
There will be seasons when praise requires effort, when faith is tested, when answers seem distant. But there is one truth that remains: God is always worthy of our praise. And so, with every breath, with every moment we are given, we will lift His name high. We will declare His goodness, trust in His promises, and celebrate His faithfulness.
Our marriage was built on praise, and it will endure through worship. It is our greatest joy, our deepest conviction, and the foundation on which we stand. And so, as for me and my spouse, we will praise the Lord.
