For those out of town who may wish information about the work of any of the men on our list, we have photographs and full descriptions which we will gladly furnish, and the pictures themselves can be sent on approval to responsible inquirers without cost or obligation to purchase. During the summer, visitors to New York will find this gallery open every weekday except Saturday. The exhibition which will then be on the walls will be retrospective of those shown during the season now passing, and the quality will be as high as we can possibly make it. We hope our friends from out of town will feel free to make this their art headquarters while in New York. We are one door south of the Public Library and just half-way between the Pennsylvania and Grand Central Stations. The sale of the George A. Hearn collection had a most stimulating effect on the interest in American pictures. Works by Inness, Wyant and Murphy established new records for the public sale of pictures by these painters, and the American section of the collection, in general, yielded a far better average return than did the pictures of the other schools. While it has never been our practice to lay too much stress on the investment value of paintings, it is quite impossible to refrain from calling attention to certain advances in values. There were nine American pictures in the collection whose purchase prices were matters of record, or at least of very close approximation. These nine cost Mr. Hearn $4,550.
