AROUND THE RIVER BEND
A Memoir of Love While Locked Up
What happens when love is tested by prison walls, years of separation, uncertainty, and a past that cannot be changed?
Around the River Bend is the deeply personal story of a woman who chose to love through one of life's most difficult circumstances. When the man she loved was incarcerated, their relationship became a journey of letters, prison visits, family struggles, faith, patience, and unwavering commitment.
For twenty-five years, prison walls stood between two people who refused to let time erase their connection. Through seasons of pain, doubt, waiting, and uncertainty, Shalanda Thompson discovered that love is not always measured by how close two people can be. Sometimes it is measured by how faithfully they hold on when everything tells them to let go.
This memoir takes readers behind the emotional reality of loving someone who is incarcerated and reveals the impact that imprisonment can have on relationships and families. It is a story of difficult conversations, enduring hope, forgiveness, and the courage to believe that a person's past does not have to determine their future.
As the years pass and the possibility of freedom finally draws near, Shalanda must confront a question that has followed her throughout the journey: What happens when the waiting is finally over?
Around the River Bend is more than a story about twenty-five years behind bars. It is a testimony to love that endured separation, faith that survived uncertainty, and the possibility of beginning again.
If you have ever loved someone through hardship, waited for a second chance, or wondered whether hope could survive the longest of seasons, this memoir will remind you that sometimes the most meaningful chapters are waiting just around the bend.
