Arichandra, The Martyr Of Truth: A Tamil Drama is a play written by Mutu Coomara Swamy in 1863. The play is set in ancient India and tells the story of Arichandra, a king who is known for his honesty and integrity. Arichandra's wife, Queen Chandramathi, is kidnapped by the demon king Ravana, and Arichandra must pay a ransom to save her. However, the ransom demanded by Ravana is more than Arichandra can afford, and he is forced to sell himself and his family into slavery to raise the money. Despite the hardships he faces, Arichandra remains true to his principles and refuses to compromise his integrity. The play explores themes of truth, sacrifice, and the importance of upholding one's values, even in the face of adversity. It is considered a classic of Tamil literature and is still performed in Tamil Nadu today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
