In the journey to uncover the truth of who Jesus is, the Scriptures act as a treasure map, leading us deeper into the mystery of His identity. Philippians 2:6-7 reveals His divine humility: the eternal Son of God, fully equal with the Father, willingly taking the form of a servant. This startling truth-Jesus choosing to veil His glory and walk among us-reflects His unparalleled love and mission to save.
To understand the depth of who Jesus is, I began in Isaiah 9:2 and 9:6. Isaiah prophesies, The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light and later declares, For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder. These verses illuminate the fullness of Jesus' identity: the Light of the World piercing our darkness, the divine Child who is also our Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.
Together, Isaiah and Philippians paint a vivid portrait. Jesus is not merely a figure of history but the very radiance of God's heart. His divinity underscores His authority; His servanthood displays His compassion. He bridges the chasm between God and humanity, offering salvation to all who believe.
As I ponder these truths, I am struck by the question: Who is Jesus to me? He is my Savior, my King, my hope. But beyond that, He is the One who stepped down from heaven so I might one day step into eternity with Him.
