The Apostle of Alaska: Life of the Most Reverend Charles John Seghers is a biographical book written by Mildred Mary that chronicles the life of Charles John Seghers, a Catholic bishop who dedicated his life to missionary work in Alaska during the late 19th century. The book covers Seghers' early life in Belgium, his ordination as a priest, and his appointment as the first bishop of the newly established diocese of Vancouver Island. The majority of the book, however, focuses on Seghers' missionary work in Alaska, where he traveled extensively by dog sled and canoe to spread the gospel to remote communities. The book also delves into Seghers' relationships with the indigenous people of Alaska, his efforts to establish schools and churches, and his tragic death at the hands of a group of Tlingit warriors. Overall, The Apostle of Alaska provides a comprehensive and engaging account of a remarkable individual who dedicated his life to serving others and spreading the message of Christianity to the far reaches of the world. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
