In Aphrodite's Trade, Lochlainn Seabrook leads readers on a fascinating journey from the biological foundations of prostitution among early humans to its sacred functions in ancient religions and its enduring role as a commercial occupation in the twenty-first century.
Drawing upon established research in primatology, anthropology, sociobiology, mythology, and archaeology, the author explores a provocative conclusion few scholars have dared to consider: because prostitution may have originated as a survival mechanism among our earliest ancestors millions of years ago, its behavioral foundations may be deeply embedded in human nature.
Rather than continuing to expend valuable time, money, and resources attempting to suppress it, he argues that society would benefit from understanding, accepting, and decriminalizing it.
The foreword is written by Xaviera Hollander, author of the international bestseller 'The Happy Hooker'. The book also features back-cover endorsements from pioneering advocates Margo St. James, founder of COYOTE and the St. James Infirmary; activist and author Carol Leigh; Norma Jean Almodovar, founder of ISWFACE; and Dolores French, founder of HIRE. Aphrodite's Trade is available in paperback and hardcover.
About the Author: Lochlainn Seabrook is a bestselling, award-winning historian and the author of over a hundred nonfiction books spanning multiple genres. His work encompasses history, politics, science, nature, religion, spirituality, mythology, thealogy, theology, the paranormal and more.
