For fifty years, Steven R. Drennon has been writing poetry and song lyrics inspired by the emotions, relationships, memories, and moments that shape our lives. With more than 1,000 original poems and lyrics published across numerous collections, his work reflects a lifelong fascination with the stories people live and the feelings they sometimes struggle to put into words.
Another Day presents 100 original song lyrics written in 2025 and 2026, drawing heavily from the storytelling tradition of country music while exploring love in all its complicated forms. These are stories of falling in love and falling apart, holding on and letting go, desire and loneliness, regret and forgiveness, laughter and heartache. Some celebrate the comfort of finding someone who feels like home. Others confront the painful realization that the love two people once shared may no longer be enough.
The title comes from Another Day, a bittersweet story of a woman remembering the man who once proudly held her hand, whispered how beautiful she was, and made her feel loved. Now those moments belong to the past, and although she tells herself she will eventually find the courage to leave, she knows that decision will have to wait for another day. That tension between yesterday, today, and an uncertain tomorrow echoes throughout much of this collection.
But Another Day is not a book devoted only to heartbreak. Within these pages are songs of passion and devotion, playful humor and summer romance, second chances and lasting love. There are memories of faded jeans and ocean waves, quiet nights spent missing someone far away, lovers rediscovering one another, and people trying to find the courage to change their lives. There are also unexpected turns into darker territory, reminders that every human story does not end where we expect it to.
Written in the plainspoken, conversational style of a songwriter telling a story across a kitchen table or beneath the lights of a small-town bar, these lyrics are meant to be felt as much as read. Each one captures a moment, a relationship, a memory, or a possibility and turns it into a story that could belong to any of us.
For readers who love country music, contemporary poetry, romance, and emotional storytelling, Another Day is a collection about the many ways we love, lose, remember, desire, forgive, and hope. Because sometimes everything can change in a single moment.
And sometimes change has to wait for another day.
