An Anniversary Oration, delivered by Octavius Nash Ogden in 1836, offers a fascinating glimpse into the intellectual and social climate of the antebellum South. Presented to the Jefferson Society of the University of Virginia, this oration reflects the prevailing sentiments and aspirations of the era. Ogden's address provides valuable insights into the concerns and values of the young men who would shape the future of the region and the nation. A compelling historical document, this oration will appeal to scholars and anyone interested in the history of American thought and higher education.
