The Annexation of Texas is a historical book written by Justin Harvey Smith in 1911. The book explores the events and circumstances leading up to the annexation of Texas by the United States in 1845. The author provides a detailed account of the political, economic, and social factors that influenced the annexation process, including the role of slavery and the tensions between the United States and Mexico. Smith also delves into the key figures involved in the annexation, including President John Tyler and Texas President Sam Houston, and their motivations for pursuing annexation. He also discusses the opposition to annexation, particularly from northern politicians who feared the expansion of slavery. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the annexation of Texas and its impact on American history. Smith's writing is detailed and informative, and he provides a balanced perspective on the complex issues surrounding the annexation. The Annexation of Texas remains a valuable resource for anyone interested in American history, politics, and the relationship between the United States and Mexico. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
