The Angels of Mons: The Bowmen and Other Legends of the War is a book written by Arthur Machen and published in 1915. The book is a collection of short stories and legends that revolve around the miraculous events that occurred during the First World War. The most famous of these legends is the story of the Angels of Mons, which tells of a group of angelic beings who intervened in the Battle of Mons and saved the lives of British soldiers. Machen's book is a fascinating exploration of the myths and legends that grew up around the war. He draws on a variety of sources, including eyewitness accounts, newspaper reports, and popular rumors, to create a vivid and compelling picture of the supernatural events that supposedly occurred during the conflict. In addition to the story of the Angels of Mons, the book includes other tales of miraculous events, such as the appearance of phantom soldiers and the intervention of supernatural beings in battle. Machen also explores the psychological impact of the war on soldiers and civilians, and the ways in which the war inspired a resurgence of interest in the supernatural and the occult. Overall, The Angels of Mons is a fascinating and thought-provoking book that offers a unique perspective on the First World War. Machen's vivid storytelling and his exploration of the myths and legends that grew up around the conflict make this book a must-read for anyone interested in the history of the war or the supernatural. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
