The American Kriegsspiel is a book written by William Roscoe Livermore in 1879. The book is a guide for a military simulation game designed to help players practice the art of war using a topographical map. The game is based on the German Kriegsspiel, which was popular in Europe at the time. The book provides detailed instructions on how to set up and play the game, including rules for movement, combat, and logistics. Livermore also includes examples of different scenarios that can be played out using the game, such as a battle between two armies or a siege of a fortified position. The American Kriegsspiel was intended for use by military officers and cadets as a training tool, and Livermore believed that it could help improve the tactical skills of American soldiers. The book was well-received and became a popular resource for military training in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.Today, The American Kriegsspiel is considered a classic work on military strategy and is still studied by historians and military professionals. Its influence can be seen in modern war games and simulations, which continue to be used as training tools for military personnel around the world. This Is A New Release Of The Original 1879 Edition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
