The American Civil War The American Civil War: A Christian Nation Divided Over Faith, Politics, and Race is James O'Flannery's Second History Book and it is a brief survey of the American Civil War focusing on Christianity during the American Civil War, the emergence of the Republican Party, the divisions within both the Democrat Party and the Republican Party, and the slavery debate. Christianity divided over the issue of slavery and many Christian Traditions and church-bodies have never been the same. The emergence of The Christian Union church-body and the divisions within American Lutheranism are examined in particular. The Christian Union church-body came out of The Methodist Episcopal Church and it is still with us today.
