There are as many ways to review a film as there are people, and knowing what you love is ALL THAT SPLATTERS!ALL THAT SPLATTERS: The Evolution of Horror, Cult and Exploitation Fandom explores the gamut of film-feasting fandom through the eyes of a die-hard who has fervently consumed horror films from too early of an age. Vanessa Hexe has been a voice in the horror underground for almost 2 decades, and in this book she recalls memories starting from her earliest memories of the mom & pop video store VHS rental generation to the current era. She explores the dynamics of fandom, formats, fanzines, collecting, horror conventions, horror journalism and more. And now, a few words from the horror metal queen herself...
Get your mortician aprons because you're gonna get splattered as I dissect: news coverage warning parents of VHS horror rentals during the Satanic Panic era; discovering new blood through magazines and books versus the internet age; differences in collecting memorabilia since the '90s versus now; the progression and shifts of formats; horror conventions; changes in horror journalism; discussing the generation gaps in fandom; and an overall evolution in fandom up to the current wave of social media, podcasts and that beloved videodrome we call YouTube.
This sometimes cynical, but always honest book covers these topics as well as trick or treating you to some condensed reviews of books, zines, documentaries, etc. along the way. Agree or disagree, as long as you know your true horror loves then that's ALL THAT SPLATTERS!
