Algebraic Geometry And Theta Functions: American Mathematical Society Colloquium Publications, V10 by Arthur Byron Coble is a comprehensive and insightful book that explores the fascinating intersection of algebraic geometry and theta functions. The author provides a detailed and accessible introduction to the subject, covering topics such as algebraic curves, Riemann surfaces, and the theory of Abelian varieties. The book begins with an overview of the basic concepts of algebraic geometry, including the algebraic definition of curves and surfaces, and the theory of divisors and line bundles. From there, the author delves into the theory of Riemann surfaces, including the Riemann-Roch theorem and the classification of algebraic curves. The second half of the book focuses on the theory of Abelian varieties, which are higher-dimensional analogues of elliptic curves. The author introduces the reader to the theory of theta functions, which play a central role in the study of Abelian varieties, and shows how these functions can be used to describe the geometry of these objects.Throughout the book, the author provides numerous examples and exercises to help the reader understand the material. The book is written in a clear and engaging style, making it accessible to both graduate students and researchers in mathematics. Overall, Algebraic Geometry And Theta Functions is an essential resource for anyone interested in the fascinating world of algebraic geometry. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
