Alessandro Scarlatti: His Life And Works is a biographical and critical study of the life and career of Alessandro Scarlatti, a prominent Italian Baroque composer of the 17th and 18th centuries. Written by Edward Joseph Dent and originally published in 1905, the book provides an in-depth overview of Scarlatti's life, from his birth in Palermo in 1660 to his death in Naples in 1725. The book covers Scarlatti's early musical education and his rise to prominence as a composer of operas, oratorios, and chamber music. It also explores his relationships with other prominent musicians of the time, such as Handel and Corelli, and his influence on the development of Baroque music in Italy and beyond. Dent provides detailed analyses of Scarlatti's most important works, including his operas and oratorios, and offers insights into the composer's musical style and techniques. The book also includes a comprehensive bibliography of Scarlatti's works, as well as a list of recordings and performances of his music up to the time of publication. Overall, Alessandro Scarlatti: His Life And Works is a valuable resource for scholars and enthusiasts of Baroque music, offering a detailed and engaging portrait of one of the era's most important composers. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
