Alaskan Apostle: The Life Story of Sheldon Jackson is a biography of Sheldon Jackson, an American Presbyterian missionary who dedicated his life to spreading Christianity and education throughout Alaska in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The book, written by Arthur J. Lazell, chronicles Jackson's early life in Pennsylvania, his decision to become a missionary, and his journey to Alaska, where he faced many challenges in his efforts to establish schools, churches, and other institutions in remote and often hostile communities. The book also explores Jackson's relationships with the native peoples of Alaska, his efforts to preserve their culture and traditions, and his advocacy for their rights and well-being. Throughout the book, Lazell portrays Jackson as a complex and dynamic figure, whose legacy continues to influence the state of Alaska to this day. The book is a fascinating and informative read for anyone interested in the history of Alaska, the role of missionaries in American history, or the intersection of religion, culture, and politics. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
