Darby Ross, Chief Editor of the Catholic Cross Monthly, is tasked by Cardinal Spitzmulcher with a rather vague assignment concerning Father Bede and his newly-formed neo-vaudevillian order of monks. What follows is a roller-coaster ride of spiritual self-discovery which includes Darby's drunken stumble through a 1980s rural South.
Alas! The Poor Yoricks is peopled by a wide-ranging cast of supporting characters including Sonny-Boy Morning-Love (a country-music star who looks a lot like Darby), Sheriff Catfish Bebber, Toad (owner of a towing service and garage), Papa Linda, Jeeter Baldtrip, and even the Pope himself to name just a few. Standing front and center is Father Solomon Bede, the founder of The Poor Yoricks, who leads Darby to his moment of decision...and beyond. Also in
