Van loves his blue bunny, Bunny, who has been his constant companion since his first Easter. They go everywhere together and Bunny is always by Van's side, even at night. But even though Van loves Bunny, his heart truly belongs to cats. He dreams of becoming a farmer and opening a cat rescue.

Van's favorite stuffed cat is an orange tabby named Kitty, who sleeps right alongside Bunny. Their peaceful world is shattered during a trip to Dad's house when a dog accidentally destroys Kitty's face. Devastated, Van cries, and even Bunny can't fully comfort him. Mommy tries to fix Kitty, but his eyes and nose are gone.
