The Adventures of David and Papa captures the relationship between a little boy and his papa. David is a funny, delightful kid who is full of energy and spends much time at his grandparent's home! This book shows the relationship between David and his Papa and the fun they have together. Grandparents play a very significant role in the lives of their grandchildren. They help with the development of children when they spend time together. Grandparents also help with teaching valuable lessons and provide wisdom from their experiences in life.
Author, Kim Cantey Davis is a visionary, motivational speaker, and youth advocate for her community. She is also an entrepreneur, actress, playwright, philanthropist, and breast cancer survivor. Many times, after chemotherapy, Kim would be entertained in her bedroom by her grandson, niece, and husband playing basketball, games, wrestling, and dancing. Their entertainment provided support and laughter while fulfilling moments of hope to fight and beat cancer which inspired Kim to write her first children's book about the relationship of her grandson and his Papa. Kim is dedicated to giving a voice to the silenced, increasing opportunity for youth to succeed, and is passionate about giving hope and encouragement to others. She founded the Don't Be a Bully Foundation in 2010, an organization dedicated to educating youth about bullying prevention and youth violence. She credits her advocacy for others to her parents who made it a habit to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her compassion and concern for others grew with her into adulthood and as a mother; Kim's vision for this organization was triggered after her daughter was bullied in school by not only students but also a teacher. She then realized that the need for education against bullying was a message that students and educators needed to hear. Utilizing her talents as an actress she wrote a stage play that would change the way children and adults learned about bullying, Don't Be A Bully, Speak Up! Speak Out!. The success of that program led the organization to seek the input of counselors, psychologists, and educators to give birth to a myriad of workshops, programs, and dialogues that inspires and transforms the lives of youth. Today, the Don't Be A Bully foundation, what the team now lovingly calls DBAB, has now expanded into advocacy, youth character education, youth empowerment events, and youth violence prevention. With the help of her daughter, Symone, and husband, Terry Davis, she continues to provide vision and creative leadership to decrease bullying and youth violence within the community. Kim's future goals are to explore writing more children's books about youth bullying and character education. The Adventures of David and Papa is the first of its series to come.
