ADULLAM: A 30-Day Spoken Word Reflection is a raw, faith-centered journey for readers who have felt cast out, fatherless, forgotten, misunderstood, or forced to survive in silence. Inspired by the biblical cave of Adullam-the hidden place where David fled before he ever wore a crown-this book explores the difficult truth that some of life's darkest seasons are not graves, but places where identity, character, healing, and purpose are formed.
Written by David Gonzalez, ADULLAM combines spoken-word poetry, personal testimony, devotional reflection, guided journaling, prayer, and Scripture readings. Each of the thirty days invites the reader to confront a different wound or struggle, including rejection, fatherlessness, family dysfunction, anxiety, grief, anger, addiction, spiritual exhaustion, church hurt, marriage, parenting, comparison, identity, and the pressure of carrying a calling while still healing. The language is honest, emotional, pastoral, and deeply personal. It does not ask readers to pretend that pain did not happen or that faith removes every difficult question. Instead, it creates space to tell the truth, grieve what was lost, recognize unhealthy patterns, receive God's presence, and take practical steps toward freedom.
The book is divided into four movements: The Wound, The Wrestling, The Healing, and The Sending. The first section names the pain that shaped the reader. The second gives permission to wrestle honestly with God, anxiety, grief, anger, and spiritual silence. The third focuses on identity, inner healing, breaking generational cycles, and learning to breathe, love, and live differently. The final section calls the reader forward with greater responsibility, humility, purpose, and care for others.
ADULLAM is written especially for wounded believers, fatherless sons and daughters, black sheep, cycle breakers, recovering addicts and their families, tired parents, ministry leaders, and anyone who loves God but still carries unanswered questions. It is not a replacement for counseling or medical care, but it can serve as a compassionate companion for prayer, reflection, journaling, support groups, men's ministries, recovery communities, church small groups, and personal healing.
At its heart, ADULLAM carries one central message: the hidden place was never proof that God abandoned you. It may be the place where He teaches you to tell the truth, breaks the power of false labels, heals what rejection named, and prepares you to carry light without becoming hardened by the darkness.
