This volume comprises addresses delivered at the inauguration of Reverend David C. Marquis as Professor of New Testament Literature and Exegesis, and of Reverend Herrick Johnson as Professor of Sacred Rhetoric and Pastoral Theology. The event took place at the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago.
These addresses offer insights into the academic and theological perspectives of the time, reflecting on the importance of biblical scholarship, effective communication, and pastoral care within the Presbyterian tradition. The speeches provide a historical snapshot of theological education and the roles of these distinguished professors in shaping the future of religious leadership. Readers interested in the history of theological education, Presbyterianism, and the intellectual landscape of 19th-century American religious life will find this a valuable resource.
