This volume contains the address of the Board of Trustees of the University of the South to the Southern Dioceses. The address concerns the board's decision regarding the location of the university. It provides insights into the foundational considerations and challenges in establishing the University of the South, also known as Sewanee, in the context of the post-Civil War South.
The document offers valuable historical context for understanding the university's origins and its relationship with the Episcopal Church. It sheds light on the priorities and concerns of the founders as they sought to create a leading institution of higher education in the region. This is a useful resource for scholars of Southern history, higher education, and religious institutions.
