This historic address, Address Before The American Forestry Congress St. Paul, Minnesota, 1883, presents a snapshot of forestry practices and perspectives in the United States during the late 19th century. Delivered by George Bailey Loring, the speech offers insights into the challenges and opportunities surrounding forest management at a time when industrial expansion and resource extraction were rapidly transforming the American landscape. This document serves as a valuable primary source for understanding the early conservation movement and the evolving relationship between humans and the natural environment.
The address reflects contemporary concerns about deforestation, sustainable resource use, and the importance of forestry to the nation's economic and ecological well-being. Scholars and enthusiasts interested in environmental history, forestry, and the history of conservation will find this work a compelling window into a pivotal period in American environmental thought.
