From Brooklyn classrooms to the White House: one doctor's relentless rise.
You dream of a career that matters. You want to break barriers, serve your country, and leave a legacy your family can be proud of for generations. But the path from ambition to achievement is rarely straightforward. Obstacles, setbacks, and systemic challenges can make even the most determined professional wonder if the goal is worth the fight.
In Achieving Success: My Path from Doctor to Military Medical Leader, Maj. Gen. George Atkins Alexander, M.D., U.S. Army (Ret), shares his remarkable journey from a Catholic school in Brooklyn to the highest ranks of military medicine. Tracing a career that spans Columbia University, Howard University College of Medicine, groundbreaking cancer research in East Africa, the National Cancer Institute, the National Institutes of Health, and the White House Office of Homeland Security, this memoir reveals how discipline, faith in hard work, and an unwavering will transformed a young man's aspirations into an extraordinary 242-year family legacy. Rooted in the values his parents instilled, Gen. Alexander's story is both deeply personal and universally inspiring.
This memoir is essential reading for aspiring physicians, military professionals, and anyone who believes that hard work remains the foundation of success.
