The narrative begins on February 28th, 2008, when the author, Brett Langley, learns about the brutal murder of his father and his father's friend Jack during a home invasion robbery. Langley's father, a successful vending company owner in Detroit, was known to keep large amounts of cash and cigarettes at home, making his house a target for criminals.
The author, takes us on a journey through his past life during the years he had with his father as a part of his grieving process. The narrative unfolds through a series of reflections on old photos, memories shared during flights back to Detroit, and events in his life at the time.
The narrative reaches a climax when DNA results come back from the crime scene, nine months after the crime, changing the course of the investigation. Langley's story ends with a dream in which he finds himself in his father's house on the night of the crime, able to course correct the events that changed his family's life forever.
This book is a tribute to Langley's father, a man he loves and misses dearly. It's a testament to the power of love and the indomitable spirit of a son seeking justice for his father.
