When Okechukwu learns from his parents that he has a sister who is married in a distant village, he decides that he must go and see her, and he does all he could to do that. He finally succeeds and goes to live with her. There, he grows up and meets one young lady called Ojiugo, and they agreed to get married. Unfortunately, during the courtship, Ojiugo became pregnant for Okechukwu. At this point, suspense, uncertainty and fears are created, and lies told. Okechukwu and Ojiugo desperately do everything they could to keep the pregnancy secret. But nobody knows that Ojiugo is pregnant, except her and Okechukwu. In their efforts to keep it hidden, Okechukwu and Ojiugo decided that Ojiugo should go and hide at an illegal Maternity Home, and Okechukwu reports her missing. Okechukwu and Ojiugo succeeds, and after nine months, she gives birth to a baby girl and repugnantly sell her, in furtherance of their bid to hide what they had done. At last, Ojiugo came out and narrates her cock and bull story of how she is kidnapped to her relations, and she and Okechukwu got married. However, she is unable to bear children for Okechukwu, and as a result, they decided that he should get another wife, which he did. Abhorrently, the girl he later married happens to be the girl that Ojiugo gave birth to and sold. Through that, Okechukwu learns that it is his daughter that he married.
