A Window Into Time takes place in the 1700s in Berwick, a township near London, England. Lady Rumsford purchased a rosewood chest that contained three scraps of parchment traceable to Merlin and possibly Sir Isaac Newton. Might they lead to the fabled Chronicle, a series of books containing detailed records of past and future events? Lady Fiona and her brother, Cuthbert, believe it will provide untold wealth and re-establish their tarnished reputation. As word spreads, Merchant Ambrose Tilden, who craves entrée into the world of the aristocracy, and Lord Dunstan and Mayor Bloomsbury, who hunger for more power to control the citizenry, join in the frantic search to possess it. Toby, a young orphan lad who discovered the Chronicle, is in danger. Should his guardians, the Crumpworthys, be fearful as well? Even Annie, Bloomsbury's mistress, seeks the Chronicle and fears for her own life. Vicar Jonathan Petersham struggles to prevent the evil spreading throughout the township. He is under Bishop Ellerby's intense scrutiny for his criticism of the overpowering rule of the government, the arrogance of the aristocracy, and the deceitful clergy. In the quest to find the secrets of tomorrow, sages Phineas and Ichabod watch from afar and fear the possibility of heresy and the corruption of society's moral structure.
