An adventurous young Randle has survived the 9.6 Alaska earth-quake of 1964, a bear attack and almost drowning in the Frasier River while being shot at by Canadian Mounties and a dysfunctional family, but there are scarier things in Alaska than bears and violence; a part of Alaska you won't find in a travel brochure or see form a cruise ship. In his own words and with lots of gallows humor Randle shares his decent and ultimately the miracle of recovery. Along the way Randle introduces us to a plethora of unique characters from dog musher's to Alaskan bikers, Psychiatrists and Ministers, bears, moose and a mean dog who later turns out to be his best friend are just a few examples. Without being morose or maudlin, Randle shares his tragedies as well as his triumphs as he begins to build a new life with help from some almost unbelievable sources. A Soft Shoe will inspire anyone who is having difficulties.
