“A Defence Of The Baptists, †by George Gibbs, originally published in 1821, presents a detailed argument supporting the practice of believer's baptism by immersion as the only valid form of baptism within Christianity. Gibbs meticulously examines scripture and theological arguments to defend Baptist principles against alternative views prevalent at the time.
This treatise offers valuable insights into the historical context of Baptist theology and the controversies surrounding baptismal practices. It remains a significant resource for those studying Baptist history, Christian theology, and the development of religious thought in the 19th century. Gibbs's work provides a comprehensive understanding of the theological underpinnings of Baptist distinctiveness and its historical importance.
