Look at the night sky and you see stars, planets, galaxies, and clouds of gas and dust. It feels like you're looking at the universe.
But most of the matter in the universe is something we cannot see.
Dark matter accounts for approximately 27% of the universe's total energy content, while ordinary matter accounts for roughly 5%. When we consider matter alone, dark matter makes up approximately 85% of it.

Dark matter has never been directly identified. Its fundamental nature remains unknown. Scientists have proposed a range of possibilities, from undiscovered elementary particles to primordial black holes and other possibilities that may challenge our current understanding of physics.
At the same time, alternative explanations, including modified theories of gravity, continue to be investigated.
THE 85% follows this scientific mystery from what we can measure to what we still cannot explain. It examines what the evidence tells us, what remains uncertain, how scientists search for the invisible, and why the absence of a direct detection has not ended the investigation.
